Helicopter Survey Inspection of LUS Transmission Lines Begins After Delays

What’s that helicopter in Lafayette doing?

Here’s the release from LUS:

Lafayette, LA (August 3, 2020) – Due to inclement weather last week, a helicopter survey of Lafayette Utilities System’s (LUS) transmission lines was delayed but work has begun today, Monday, Aug. 3 and will last throughout the week as weather permits. LUS along with The Energy Authority and GeoDigital International will be conducting the aerial survey of 40 miles of high-voltage transmission lines around the city of Lafayette.

The Bell 206L helicopter will be flying at approximately 500 feet over the transmission lines at slow speeds to capture imagery as part of LUS’s routine transmission maintenance. Aerial survey allows LUS to inspect the system in a more efficient manner with a bird’s-eye view of the lines.

Local authorities have been notified of the aerial survey.
