KPLC Tower Collapsed During Hurricane Laura

KPLC’s transmission tower snapped in half and tumbled down into the broadcast studio during Hurricane Laura.

Hurricane Laura reached the coast of southwest Louisiana in the early morning hours Tuesday as a category 4 hurricane.  Thankfully, the KPLC staff heeded the early warnings and had evacuated their broadcast building and relocated to other Gray-owned stations KALB in Alexandria and WAFB in Baton Rouge.

KPLC was able to continue delivering news, including wall-to-wall coverage of Hurricane Laura as crews worked from different locations.  KPLC General Manager John Ware said the station will continue to deliver regular newscasts, but it could be up to a year before the station is fully restored.
