Southern California Faces Another Round of Rain This Week — Timing Breakdown

Soak up the sunshine early this week — it won’t stick around.

With the ground still saturated from last week’s atmospheric river, another Pacific storm is moving toward Southern California, bringing rain to close out 2025.

Rain is expected to begin Tuesday evening along the Central Coast and slowly move east, according to the National Weather Service.

The heaviest rainfall is forecast for metro Los Angeles late Wednesday night into New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. Peak rainfall rates could reach 0.25 to 0.50 inches per hour, with heavier isolated downpours possible.

“This will be the period of heaviest rainfall with this storm, but likely still at least 50% lighter than the last event,” meteorologists said.

The incoming storm has already led Fullerton to cancel its large outdoor New Year’s Eve celebration. “These conditions raise public safety and operational concerns for attractions, entertainment and fireworks,” the city said.

Projected rain timing and totals from the National Weather Service. Dec. 29, 2025.

Projected rainfall totals are expected to reach between 1.25 and 1.5 inches through New Year’s Day.

Anyone planning to attend the Rose Parade in Pasadena should be ready for wet conditions.

“The chances of a wet New Year’s Parade, including the night before when people camp out, are extremely high — 80% to 90% at this point,” the Weather Service said.

The Rose Parade last saw rain in 2006.

Steady rain is expected to ease Thursday night into Friday, giving way to scattered light showers. After that, another cold front from the northwest is likely to deliver more rain.

“Round two moves into the area Friday into Saturday,” weather anchor Kacey Montoya said. How much rain this second round will bring remains uncertain.
