Southern California Sees Impressive Rainfall Totals After Holiday Storms

Southern California recorded significant rainfall over the past two weeks as a series of storms moved through the region during the Christmas and New Year’s holidays, according to the National Weather Service.

The NWS shared 14-day rainfall totals on Monday using data from Ventura County Public Works, highlighting especially heavy precipitation across mountain and foothill areas. Rainfall amounts were highest in the San Gabriel Mountains, where multiple monitoring stations reported between 10 and 20 inches of rain. One location in the Angeles National Forest recorded more than 22 inches.

Despite drier conditions expected this week, the recent storms provided a substantial boost to the region’s water supply. Downtown Los Angeles received approximately 7 inches of rain over the past 14 days.

Since July 1, downtown L.A. has recorded 14.2 inches of rainfall—nearly 10 inches above the seasonal average of 4.45 inches for this point in the water year, the NWS said.

Other communities also saw heavy rainfall, with Pasadena and Santa Clarita each measuring about 10 inches during the two-week storm period.
