A man was arrested on animal cruelty charges after he was reportedly seen assaulting a dog in Rancho Cucamonga.
Deputies responded to a condominium in the 8000 block of Haven Avenue just before 5 p.m. on Jan. 6.
According to authorities, a witness told deputies that the suspect, identified as 37-year-old Willie Anthony Conant, was seen repeatedly striking a dog on the balcony of his condominium. The witness also recorded the alleged assault on video.
When deputies arrived, they found the dog on the balcony suffering from injuries to its legs. The animal was transported to a local animal hospital for treatment.
During their investigation, deputies also discovered a 3D-printed, unserialized AR-15 rifle inside the residence, along with multiple large-capacity magazines.
Conant was arrested and booked into the West Valley Detention Center on charges including intentional cruelty to animals, illegal possession of an assault weapon, manufacturing or selling a large-capacity magazine, possession of a firearm without an identification mark, and owning a firearm without a serial number.
Authorities said no additional details are being released as the investigation remains ongoing.
