The Kern County Coroner’s Office has identified the man found shot to death on East Warren Avenue on Jan. 2, 2026, as John Tony Duval Jr., 40, of Bakersfield. He was discovered around 2:37 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have a heavy presence in Oildale as the investigation continues. Jonathan Cody Fraze has been charged with murder and stalking in connection with the case. Fraze pleaded not guilty on Jan. 6 and is scheduled to appear in Kern County Superior Court on January 14 for a hearing.
Law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
