A male pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning after being struck by a gray Nissan sedan on South H Street, according to Bakersfield Police.
The incident occurred around 1:51 a.m. in the 4200 block of South H Street. Officers found the pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway; he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police say the pedestrian was outside a crosswalk, occupying the number two northbound lane. Investigators confirmed that excessive speed and driver impairment were not factors.
The driver remained on scene and cooperated with authorities. South H Street has two lanes in each direction, separated by a landscaped median, with a posted speed limit of 45 mph.
The Kern County Coroner’s Office will release the identity of the deceased. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Bakersfield Police Department at (661) 327-7111.
