A man was shot and killed early Monday after allegedly attempting to break into a garage in Fort Worth, and police say the property owner involved was the one who called 911.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, officers responded around 6 a.m. to the 3400 block of Ave. L., where they found a man lying on the sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound to his stomach.
Medics attempted life-saving measures, but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Detectives later learned that the suspect, identified as the property owner, confronted the man after hearing noises and then seeing him allegedly trying to break into a locked garage.
In a news release, police said the suspect told investigators that the man “aggressively” came toward him, prompting the suspect to fire multiple shots, striking the man an unknown number of times.
Police said the man ran from the scene but collapsed nearby at the intersection of Ave. L and Bishop, where officers found him.
The suspect told officers he called 911 to request medical assistance and remained at the scene to cooperate with investigators.
Fort Worth police said no arrests have been made so far, and homicide detectives are leading the investigation.
The man who died has not yet been identified. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will release his identity and determine the official cause and manner of death.
