Camping World, the largest retailer and dealer of RVs in the U.S., operates nearly 250 lots nationwide, including several in Northern California. The company gained attention for flying massive American flags at each lot, some as large as 3,200 square feet.
For over a year, CEO Marcus Lemonis clashed with city governments over his right to display these giant flags. He defied city and county ordinances that limited such displays, leading to fines and lawsuits.
“The flag? It’s never coming down,” Lemonis said in a viral FOX News video. “Over the last several years, I’ve had a number of run-ins with local city officials and governments over my raising of the flag.”
He added, “I’ll never take it down. And the reason for that is it’s my love letter as an immigrant to this country, who, quite frankly, was given a gift.”
In June 2025, Greenville, North Carolina, was among the cities that filed a 28-page lawsuit against Lemonis, claiming Camping World owed more than $34,000 in fines for flying the oversized flag against city rules. After nearly seven months of litigation, the city dropped the suit.
The decision came during an October 2025 Greenville council meeting, where members voted to dismiss the case and associated fees. The move coincided with a new North Carolina law, House Bill 926, which made it illegal for the government to prohibit official governmental flags from being displayed.
A settlement signed in December 2025 confirmed that Lemonis was not required to remove or resize the American flag.
Lawsuits over similar issues in other cities are still ongoing.
