West Virginia AG Patrick Morrisey Leads 15-State Coalition Urging Michigan to Uphold Protest Charges

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey, along with Iowa’s Attorney General, is leading a bipartisan group of 15 states in urging Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel to uphold her decision to charge anti-Israel protesters at the University of Michigan.

Morrisey emphasized that an attorney general’s primary responsibility is to enforce the law without political bias, saying, “We encourage you to stay focused on decisions that prioritize public safety, based on evidence, despite any political or religious pressures.”

Recently, Nessel charged 11 individuals involved in the protests with offenses including trespassing, obstructing an officer, disturbing the peace, and damaging property. In response, some groups have criticized the charges as politically or religiously motivated, calling for their dismissal.

The coalition, which includes attorneys general from Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Louisiana, Montana, Nevada, New York, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and Utah, stands behind Nessel’s actions, encouraging her to remain firm in her decision.
