One person died following a deputy-involved shooting in Lake Isabella after deputies responded to reports of a man firing a gun early Sunday morning.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said that around 1:40 a.m. on January 11, 2026, deputies from the Kern Valley Substation were dispatched to the area of Kilbreth Avenue and Lake Isabella Boulevard after receiving reports of a male firing a handgun.
According to officials, deputies made contact with the suspect, who then moved toward Highway 178, where the deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Deputies provided medical aid until medical personnel arrived. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said the individual’s identity will be released at a later time.
Homicide detectives responded to take over the investigation.
In a statement, the sheriff’s office said, “Kern County Sheriff’s Office detectives investigate any use of deadly force by any member of the department. Investigations are submitted to the Kern County District Attorney’s Office for criminal review.”
Officials said additional information will be released once the investigation is complete.
