A pedestrian was killed early Sunday morning after being struck by a vehicle in southeast Bakersfield, according to the Bakersfield Police Department.
Officers responded around 1:51 a.m. on January 11, 2026, to the 4200 block of S. H Street near White Lane.
When officers arrived, they found a male pedestrian lying in the roadway. Medical personnel later pronounced him dead at the scene.
Police said the driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Investigators determined that speed and impairment were not factors in the crash.
A preliminary investigation found that a gray Nissan sedan was traveling northbound on S. H Street when it struck the pedestrian, who was reportedly outside of a crosswalk at the time.
Authorities said the pedestrian’s identity will be released at a later date. The investigation remains ongoing.
