Timothy Busfield, Founder of Sacramento’s B Street Theatre, Arrested on Child Sex Abuse Charges

Emmy-winning actor and B Street Theatre founder Timothy Busfield has turned himself in to authorities in Albuquerque, New Mexico, following accusations of child sex abuse.

Bernalillo County District Attorney Sam Bregman confirmed that Busfield is in custody at the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center. He faces two counts of criminal sexual contact with a minor under 13 and one count of child abuse. Authorities plan to seek to keep Busfield detained during the judicial process, though a judge will decide whether he remains in custody or is released pending trial.

The allegations reportedly involve incidents that allegedly occurred on the set of the TV series The Cleaning Lady, which Busfield both directed and acted in. In statements to  TMZ, Busfield’s lawyer and a video statement from the actor deny the allegations, calling them false.

Busfield is widely recognized in Sacramento for founding B Street Theatre. Established in 1986 as Theatre for Children, Inc., it later became B Street Theatre in 1991, producing world, national, and regional premieres. Its Family Series, launched in 2002, has introduced more than 500,000 children and families to live theater.

B Street Theatre emphasized that the allegations are unrelated to its operations, staff, or programs. “These allegations did not occur at B Street Theatre, nor do they involve any activity connected with our organization,” the theater said, highlighting its commitment to providing a safe and inclusive environment for artists, audiences, and families.

No further details about the ongoing investigation have been released.
