Galt Father Arrested for Murder, Child Abuse Following Infant Daughter’s Death

A Galt father has been arrested on suspicion of murder and child abuse after the death of his 7-month-old daughter.

The Galt Police Department announced that 33-year-old Edgar Allan Bonifacio was taken into custody Tuesday morning and booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on charges of homicide and felony child abuse resulting in death. He is being held without bail and is expected in court Thursday.

According to authorities, UC Davis Medical Center first alerted police in August after treating the infant for severe head injuries. Bonifacio initially told investigators that the child slipped from his arms at home and fell backward, causing her to become unresponsive. The mother returned home shortly after and the infant was taken to the hospital, where she remained for 49 days before succumbing to her injuries.

Investigators said medical findings revealed the injuries were inconsistent with Bonifacio’s account, prompting the murder and child abuse charges.

“The Galt Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones as they mourn this tragic and heartbreaking loss,” the department stated.

Authorities continue to investigate the case.
