Solano County Workers Begin Two-Day Strike Over Contract Disputes

Thousands of Solano County workers began a two-day strike Tuesday over stalled contract negotiations. The strike involves more than 2,000 employees represented by four unions, including SEIU Local 1021IFTPE Local 21 units 6 and 16, IUOE Stationary Engineers Local 39, and UAPD Unit 11 Physicians and Dentists , covering mental health staff, social services, engineers, and medical professionals.

Union leaders say the county has failed to engage in meaningful negotiations, citing issues with fairness, equity, and competitive pay compared to surrounding counties. “Critical services… may not be safely met,” said SEIU Regional President Elizabeth Harrison.

County officials counter that they have engaged in extensive negotiations and have plans to maintain essential services and public safety during the strike. The unions filed claims of unfair labor practices on December 31, alleging Solano County is not bargaining in good faith.

The strike highlights ongoing tensions over retention, recruitment, and worker compensation in the county.
