Police have arrested a suspect in a random, unprovoked stabbing that left a man injured on a Palm Springs recreational trail last month.
The incident occurred on New Year’s Eve around 11:30 a.m. on the CV Link trail, between Golf Club Drive and Cathedral Canyon Drive. The victim told police that after making eye contact with a man on the trail, the same man returned about 15 minutes later, put on a ski mask, and assaulted him while yelling profanities.
During the struggle, the victim was stabbed before the suspect fled on foot. The victim was treated at a local hospital and later released. Palm Springs police said the attack appears to have been unprovoked and no property was demanded.
Investigators later identified the suspect as Jacob Masters, 53, of Palm Springs. Officers located Masters on Sunday in the 5600 block of East Ramon Road. When police attempted to detain him, Masters initially fled but was apprehended near the CV Link trail in the Cimarron Golf Course area.
Masters has been booked on suspicion of attempted murder and resisting an officer.
