Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Republican governor of California, announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz in an unusual endorsement.
Citing his belief in America as a shining city on a hill, Schwarzenegger condemned recent statements by Donald Trump, who referred to the U.S. as a garbage can for the world while discussing immigration.
Schwarzenegger expressed his disappointment, calling Trump’s rhetoric unpatriotic and stating that his focus is on America’s unity, which he feels Trump would only further divide.
In his message, Schwarzenegger noted his longstanding disagreements with the Democratic platform but emphasized that he believes Harris and Walz are better suited to move the country forward.
Schwarzenegger has openly criticized Trump for years, especially after the January 6 Capitol attack, calling Trump the worst president in U.S. history and arguing the GOP has dug a hole by making Trump its leader.
On the other hand, retired astronaut Buzz Aldrin endorsed Trump, praising the former president’s space policies and support for the creation of the Space Force, which became a reality in 2019.
Aldrin, 94, cited Trump’s influence on revitalizing American interest in space exploration and the growth of the private space sector, applauding figures like Elon Musk for their visionary contributions.
