California Awards $1 Billion in Broadband Grants to Expand High-Speed Internet Access

The California Public Utilities Commission CPUC has reached an important milestone by awarding over $1 billion in grants for broadband expansion.

This funding is part of the $2 billion Last Mile Federal Funding Account, which aims to bring high-speed internet to communities that currently lack access.

The most recent round of grants, totaling $225 million, will support 97 projects, benefiting more than 2 million people across California, including those in low-income and rural areas.

CPUC President Alice Reynolds emphasized that these investments are a step toward ensuring all Californians can access reliable internet.

Governor Gavin Newsom also praised the program, noting its positive impact on education, healthcare, and job opportunities in underserved communities.
