Several shootings occurred in Chicago following Fourth of July celebrations, resulting in deaths and injuries, according to police.
The largest incident happened around 12:15 a.m. in the Little Italy neighborhood. Police responded to reports of multiple people shot. Investigators believe there was an exchange of gunfire between two individuals, leaving eight people injured. The suspects fled the scene and have not been identified.
The victims, ranging from 18 to 74 years old, were in fair or good condition:
- A 74-year-old woman was shot in the leg and in fair condition.
- A 36-year-old man was shot in the groin and in fair condition.
- A 31-year-old woman was shot in the leg and in fair condition.
- A 28-year-old man was shot twice in the leg and in fair condition.
- A 23-year-old man was shot in the leg and in fair condition.
- A 19-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the back and was in good condition but declined medical treatment.
- An 18-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the head and was in good condition.
- An 18-year-old woman suffered a graze wound to the knee and was in good condition but declined medical treatment.
Additionally, two men were shot around 1:45 a.m. near Oak Park. A 36-year-old man was critically injured and hospitalized, while another man was in good condition with an arm injury. No suspects were detained in this shooting.
In another incident around 2:09 a.m. in the Near West Side neighborhood, police found a 43-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the hospital. Detectives are investigating this shooting.
