Christina Bohannan: Fighting for Middle-Class Expansion and Education in Iowa’s 1st District

Christina Bohannan, a Democratic congressional candidate from Iowa City, spoke at the Iowa State Fair, outlining her campaign goals. She aims to support hardworking families and restore faith in government, targeting her Republican opponent, Mariannette Miller-Meeks.

Bohannan, 53, is running against the 68-year-old incumbent Miller-Meeks in Iowa’s 1st Congressional District, which includes cities like Iowa City, Davenport, and Keokuk. Libertarian Nicholas Gluba is also on the ballot.

On Saturday, Bohannan shared her background, mentioning she grew up in a trailer and saw her father struggle as a construction worker. She criticized Miller-Meeks for not supporting hardworking families and pledged to fight for middle-class expansion, better public schools, women’s rights, and rural communities.

Bohannan criticized Miller-Meeks for voting against a $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill that would have funded Iowa’s roads and bridges. She also took issue with Miller-Meeks’s stance on border security and public education, arguing that her votes and support for certain laws hurt Iowans.

Bohannan specifically condemned Miller-Meeks for her support of Iowa’s six-week abortion ban and national anti-abortion measures. She claimed Miller-Meeks’s actions have diminished trust in government and vowed to restore that faith if elected.

Miller-Meeks, a former state senator, did not support the Iowa six-week abortion ban but has backed anti-abortion legislation and Supreme Court rulings restricting abortion rights.

Bohannan concluded by saying she wants to restore faith in government and represent the interests of all Iowans.
