The Lafayette Public Library will officially unveil its new Bookmobile on Wednesday, April 10, 2019 (National Bookmobile Day) at 1:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 301 W. Congress Street, downtown Lafayette.
The public will be invited to step aboard the mobile library and experience the new mobile branch until 4:00 p.m.
The Bookmobile is 32 feet long, ADA-compliant, and outfitted with a mobile hotspot. The vehicle will be stocked with a diverse collection of books, DVDs and audiobooks available to check out as part of its outreach services. It allows the Library to step up service to all Lafayette Parish residents outside of its nine bricks-and-mortar locations. The Bookmobile, along with Outreach Services, will provide the library services that patrons look for, such as computer classes, crafts, STEM activities and early literacy programming.
Celebrated annually during National Library Week, National Bookmobile Day is a national observance sponsored by the American Library Association (ALA), the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS), and the Association for Rural & Small Libraries (ARSL).
