Former Kansas City Chiefs defensive lineman Isaiah Buggs has been found guilty of two counts of misdemeanor animal cruelty.
On July 19, Tuscaloosa County District Judge Joanne Jannik sentenced Buggs to a year of hard labor, with 60 days to be served and the rest suspended for two years based on his behavior.
Buggs, who is 27, is also banned from having or being around firearms and cannot own dogs or cats.
The Chiefs released Buggs on June 24, following his second arrest in Alabama. He was previously arrested on charges of domestic violence and burglary, and was released on a $5,000 bond.
Buggs, a defensive tackle from Alabama, played three seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the last two with the Detroit Lions. In his career, he has started 23 games, appeared in 56, recorded 89 tackles, and had two sacks. He had a contract worth $1,292,500 with Kansas City for the upcoming season.
