A tragic crash on Interstate 15 last month led to the death of a California man, and Nevada State Police are investigating. The incident happened on November 22, just after 5 p.m., near mile marker 78, north of Las Vegas.
The accident started when a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer made an illegal U-turn, forcing two other trucks to slow down quickly. Ivan Trodosechky Paniagua Martinez, a 42-year-old driver from Pasadena, California, was behind them in a box truck.
He tried to change lanes but crashed into the back of a black Peterbilt truck and then hit a silver Peterbilt truck, causing his truck to flip over. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene.
In the chaos, another truck, a 2024 Isuzu NRR box truck, swerved to avoid the crashes but hit the rear of one of the trucks. The black Peterbilt truck slid before hitting the silver Peterbilt truck again.
The driver of the Freightliner that caused the crash fled the scene before police arrived. According to authorities, the Freightliner crossed a restricted road, turned onto southbound I-15, and left. This crash is the 68th fatal accident on Nevada’s roads in 2024, bringing the total death toll to 76.
