Fatal Crash on Redmond Mill Road in Orangeburg County Claims One Life

One person was killed in a crash on Saturday night when their car ran off the road in the Midlands area, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 7 p.m. in Orangeburg County. A Hyundai sedan was heading west on Redmond Mill Road. When it reached the intersection with Magenta Drive, the car veered off the road, hit a tree, and the driver died.

The driver’s identity has not been released by the Orangeburg County Coroner’s Office. No one else was injured in the crash, and it is unclear whether the driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The cause of the crash has not been determined, and it’s not clear if the Highway Patrol is still investigating.

As of December 15, at least 926 people had died in crashes on South Carolina roads in 2024. Last year, 1,030 people died in traffic accidents in the state. In Orangeburg County, 45 people have died in crashes this year, up from 36 in 2023.
