CHAMPAIGN, Ill. WTVO — Illinois State Police Director Brendan Kelly announced the tragic death of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen on Friday night.
On October 18, at approximately 3:40 p.m., Trooper Thompsen was involved in a fatal two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Leverett Road and County Road. The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation.
Following the incident, Thompsen was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 4:32 p.m. He was only 28 years old and had dedicated nearly five years of service to the Illinois State Police.
“It is with a heavy heart and immeasurable sadness that I inform you of the death of Trooper Corey S. Thompsen, stated ISP Director Brendan F. Kelly. We ask the public to give Trooper Thompsen’s family, and his ISP family, time while we grieve and work through this tragedy.
