Karoline Leavitt, a former candidate for Congress from New Hampshire, has been named the new White House press secretary for President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.
Trump announced the appointment on Friday night, praising Leavitt’s work as National Press Secretary during his campaign. Karoline did a phenomenal job, and I am confident she will excel at delivering our message to the American people, he said in a statement. She is smart, tough, and a highly effective communicator.
Leavitt, originally from Atkinson, New Hampshire, previously served as Trump’s assistant press secretary during his first term and as communications director for U.S. Rep. Elise Stefanik. In 2022, she ran for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st District but was defeated by Rep. Chris Pappas in the general election. She is also a graduate of Saint Anselm College.
Neil Levesque, director of the New Hampshire Institute of Politics, congratulated Leavitt on Twitter, calling her a “rock star” and noting her history with the institute. He also pointed out that Leavitt would be the youngest White House press secretary in history.
Leavitt briefly worked as a part-time employee at WMUR several years ago.
