Kirsten Gillibrand Criticizes Trump’s Cabinet Picks and ‘Warrior Board’ Proposal

Watertown, New York WWNY – Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is responding to President-Elect Trump’s recent cabinet picks and his proposal for a “warrior board” that could disrupt military leadership.

After winning the 2024 presidential election, Trump quickly nominated key cabinet members, including Congresswoman Elise Stefanik for UN Ambassador, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and Tulsi Gabbard as Director of National Intelligence.

Gillibrand believes most of Trump’s choices have one thing in common: loyalty. “He seems to prioritize loyalty above all else when selecting his cabinet,” Gillibrand said.

As confirmation votes approach, she has concerns about some nominees, including former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, who is being considered for Defense Secretary.

However, her biggest concern is Matt Gaetz, who resigned from Congress amid an ethics investigation into accusations of sex trafficking a minor.

He doesn’t seem qualified, and his record raises troubling issues for someone in the role of US Attorney General, Gillibrand remarked.

Despite her concerns, Gillibrand expressed confidence in one pick: Marco Rubio for Secretary of State. I plan to vote for him, she said, adding that she plans to meet with other nominees to discuss their qualifications.

Gillibrand also criticized reports of an executive order creating a warrior board of retired military officials who could recommend the removal of high-ranking officers. Politicizing the military is dangerous, she warned.

While Gillibrand opposes the proposal, she expects most of Trump’s cabinet picks will be confirmed. She plans to meet with as many nominees as possible to assess their qualifications.
