Maine Motorcycle Ride Highlights Urgent Need for Expanded Behavioral Health Services

The recent motorcycle ride in Maine highlighted the urgent need for expanded behavioral health services, particularly in addressing mental health, substance abuse, and life stressors.

Sponsored by Maine Behavioral Healthcare, part of the MaineHealth system, the 185-mile ride from Farmington to Westbrook aimed to spark more community discussion around this critical issue.

MaineHealth’s President of Behavioral Services, Kelly Barton, emphasized the severe shortage of these services in the state, urging the public to advocate for better access by engaging with legislators and state officials.

This event comes in the wake of the Justice Department’s lawsuit against Maine, filed last month, for allegedly limiting community-based behavioral health services.

This legal action underscores the growing concerns over the state’s ability to meet the mental health needs of its residents.
