Manny Barreras Appointed as New Mexico’s Secretary of Information Technology

EL PASO, Texas KTSM — New Mexico has a new leader for its Department of Information Technology with a connection to El Paso.

Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham has appointed Manny Barreras as the new secretary for Information Technology. The announcement was made on Friday, September 6.

Barreras has spent the last 19 years working for Motorola Solutions Inc., where he managed accounts for New Mexico and El Paso.

Manny Barreras is a strong leader with a history of creating innovative solutions for public safety, said Gov. Lujan Grisham. With his experience and understanding of the needs of state and local agencies, he is the perfect fit to lead our Department of Information Technology. I’m confident that under his leadership, New Mexico’s technology infrastructure will continue to grow and better serve our communities.

According to the Governor’s Office, Barreras has over 26 years of experience in sales and business development, with 22 of those years focused on technical sales, marketing, and public relations.

One of his key projects was a $20 million radio system upgrade for New Mexico’s Department of Information Technology in 2023.

Barreras holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a focus on marketing from New Mexico State University.
