MARYLAND News Now — Seyed Hamid Tofigh, a former Potomac dentist, has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for violating probation.
On February 6, Tofigh, 57, pleaded guilty to defrauding a state health plan and practicing dentistry without a license. Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown reported that Tofigh performed dental work on Medicaid recipients, mostly children, without a license. He used fake credentials to submit payment claims.
Initially, Tofigh was sentenced to 18 months of home detention, with an additional 3.5 years suspended and five years of probation. However, he violated probation terms by seeking dental jobs using a fake license and leaving his home without permission.
Brown emphasized that Tofigh’s actions jeopardized public safety and that breaking the law has serious consequences.
