Dr. Ram Garg, a neurologist from Taylor, Michigan, appeared in court on Tuesday, October 29, to surrender his medical license after being charged with 35 counts. Accused of operating a pill mill, Garg allegedly wrote illegitimate prescriptions for opioids, drawing patients from across Michigan and Ohio.
Authorities claim he also fabricated medical bills, profiting millions from the scheme.
He pled not guilty and was released on a $100,000 bond. The investigation began after a late-September raid on Garg’s clinic on Telegraph Road, with accusations of unlawful prescribing, medical record falsification, and healthcare fraud.
The Taylor Police Department has been receiving calls from individuals providing information about the clinic’s operations, with some expressing gratitude for the police action.
Additional allegations, including sexual misconduct, are reportedly under investigation.
In a troubling detail, police discovered a full bedroom within the clinic, labeled by a former employee as a recovery room.
Families affected by addiction have shared their relief at the shutdown, with one mother of a person in recovery thanking the police for intervening in the alleged opioid distribution scheme.
