A person from New Jersey has won the $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot, state lottery officials announced on Monday.
The winning ticket was sold at a ShopRite liquor store in Neptune Township, New Jersey, and matched all the numbers in the March drawing. This jackpot is the fifth-largest in Mega Millions history.
The winner, who wants to remain anonymous, has started the process to claim the prize. They chose the cash option, which is $537.5 million before taxes.
New Jersey law allows lottery winners to stay anonymous, a rule that has been in place since 2020.
Winners in New Jersey have up to a year to claim their prize, though it often takes time for people to come forward.
Meanwhile, another Mega Millions jackpot is up for grabs. The prize for Tuesday night’s drawing has grown to $970 million, which would make it the seventh-largest jackpot in the game’s history.
