Just a few days earlier, on November 21, a 3.4-magnitude earthquake struck Whites City, New Mexico, also at a depth of 7.3 kilometers 4.5 miles. Prior to that, on November 19, a 2.7-magnitude earthquake occurred in Alum Rock, California, at a depth of 6.4 kilometers (4.0 miles).
These events follow an even larger 6.6-magnitude earthquake that struck Kokopo, Papua New Guinea, on November 15, at a depth of 51.9 kilometers about 32.2 miles and a 5.0-magnitude earthquake in Santiago Tepextla, Mexico, on November 13, at a depth of 12.6 kilometers about 7.9 miles.
