Ohio State University Professor Faces Title IX Investigation for Sexual Misconduct

The investigation into former Ohio State University professor of military science, Lt. Col. Michael Kelvington, raises serious allegations of sexual misconduct, including non-consensual sexual penetration, stalking, and engaging in prohibited relationships.

As a leader in the university’s ROTC program, Kelvington was removed from his position on June 7, following the initiation of a Title IX investigation into these allegations.

The Lantern’s records request revealed details surrounding the investigation, including multiple allegations against Kelvington.

Notably, it was reported that he allegedly pressured an intoxicated individual into non-consensual sexual acts and engaged in various forms of inappropriate contact, such as unwanted touching and persistent attempts to initiate a sexual relationship despite the individual’s discomfort.

Kelvington has denied these allegations, expressing concern about the impact of leaked information on the investigatory process and the privacy of all parties involved. He submitted character statements from several individuals, alongside other supporting documentation, to defend against the claims.

However, the records indicate that four sworn statements corroborate allegations of misconduct, while others support Kelvington’s innocence or claim that his behavior was not problematic.

Ohio State University has affirmed its commitment to addressing allegations of sexual misconduct and has taken steps to ensure a safe environment within the ROTC program.

The U.S. Army Cadet Command, which oversees ROTC programs, confirmed that Kelvington was issued a no-contact order and restricted to administrative duties only during the investigation.

This case highlights the complexities and sensitivities involved in Title IX investigations, as well as the importance of maintaining a safe educational environment for all students.
