Potential Tropical Cyclone Could Bring Heavy Rain to Hawaii’s Windward Sides

HONOLULU KHON2 — The windward sides of the Hawaiian islands will see showers over the next few days as a storm system moves westward. This system may potentially develop into a tropical cyclone.

Currently traveling west at 10 to 15 miles per hour, the system is expected to strengthen as it reaches the central Pacific. While showers and thunderstorms are not yet organized, the National Weather ServiceNWS notes that a tropical depression or storm could form with minimal further development.

The system is likely to become a depression by late Wednesday or early Thursday, southeast of the islands. The NWS has given a 90% chance of cyclone formation within the next 48 hours.

At this time, it is too early to predict the storm’s strength or exact path.
