Rhode Island Rep. Calls for Dismissal of Transportation Director Over Bridge Mismanagement

Rhode Island State Rep. Robert Quattrocchi is calling for the immediate dismissal of Peter Alviti, the state’s Director of Transportation, citing severe mismanagement of bridge maintenance.

Quattrocchi, with 30 years in concrete construction, claims that poor workmanship has led to visible deterioration, including cracks and rot in bridge structures.

He specifically referenced the Washington Bridge project, labeling the ongoing demolition and mismanagement as a “maintenance nightmare.

During a bridge inspection over Route 6 in Johnston, Quattrocchi expressed frustration over issues with the new construction, calling the state of the bridge unacceptable.

His criticism stems from an October 17 public meeting where he found Alviti’s response to questions about bridge conditions incompetent, negligent, or both. Alviti defended the practices, saying that patching rotting concrete is standard across the U.S. to maintain reinforcing coverage.

However, Quattrocchi argues Rhode Island taxpayers deserve better than what he sees as excuses from Alviti.

Local news outlet WJAR reached out to RIDOT and Governor Dan McKee’s office for responses to Quattrocchi’s demands but has not yet received a reply.
