San Jose, Calif. – The San Jose Fire Department responded to a two-alarm fire in a residential area on Saturday afternoon, which resulted in the loss of two pets, hospitalization of a firefighter, and displacement of over a dozen residents.
The fire occurred in a multi-unit townhouse on Cicero Way in East San Jose around 2:49 p.m. Traffic was affected, and drivers were advised to avoid the area.
Both units in the complex caught fire, and nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution. One firefighter suffered burns to his ears and face and was taken to a hospital, where he is expected to recover.
By 5:15 p.m., 14 residents, including six adults and eight children, were displaced. They are receiving assistance from the Red Cross for temporary housing, food, water, and hygienic supplies.
No residents were injured, but two dogs died in the fire. Fortunately, no other structures were damaged.
