A San Jose Police Department officer, Anthony Joseph Parraz, is charged with rape in San Benito County. Parraz was put on administrative leave immediately after prosecutors filed charges this summer.
Parraz appeared in court on August 13, facing felony charges for sexually penetrating an unconscious person and committing lewd acts with a child under 14. A judge scheduled his next court date for October 8 to set a timeline for his preliminary hearing. The alleged incidents occurred in 2014. While charges are pending, Parraz’s certification to be a police officer has been suspended.
In a separate case, another San Jose officer, Timothy Hackney, was arraigned on domestic violence charges in Santa Clara County. Hackney, 31, is accused of shooting his weapon inside his Morgan Hill home and assaulting his pregnant girlfriend. Prosecutors allege Hackney threw his girlfriend into a bedroom, covered her mouth, and slapped her phone out of her hand to prevent her from calling 911. He also allegedly fired a bullet through the ceiling and said he missed, with their child present at the time.
Hackney has been served with a Gun Violence Restraining Order and is on administrative leave from the police department.
SJPD Acting Chief Paul Joseph stated that the department is cooperating with the investigations. Both officers were placed on administrative leave as soon as the allegations came to light, and their certifications are under review. Joseph emphasized that if the allegations are proven true, the officers will be permanently removed from the department.
