MISSISSIPPI (WCBI) – Mississippi Senator Roger Wicker knows firsthand the challenges of coping with disasters in his home state. Throughout his career, he has witnessed the devastation caused by tornadoes and hurricanes, engaging with storm victims and volunteers in the aftermath.
Senator Wicker recently highlighted that confusion surrounding FEMA Federal Emergency Management Agency processes has complicated disaster response efforts for those affected by two recent hurricanes.
He noted that a short-term government funding bill has provided FEMA with access to $20 billion for its disaster relief fund, ensuring essential resources for recovery efforts. This bill will fund the government for the next three months.
Wicker emphasized that FEMA relief crews, alongside several National Guard units, have been deployed on the ground to assist with the response.
Local and state disaster response officials are working tirelessly, while volunteers many from Mississippi are also stepping up to help by raising funds and collecting food, water, and cleaning supplies.
In addition to his ongoing support, Senator Wicker is a co-sponsor of the Disaster Relief Fund Replenishment Act. This fall, he has also advocated for a disaster relief supplement to further support recovery efforts.
