South Dakota Flood Relief: Federal Agencies Approve $4.9 Million in Aid

Federal agencies have approved millions in grants and loans to help South Dakotans recover from recent flooding.

On August 15, President Joe Biden declared a major disaster for the affected areas. From then until August 29, the Federal Emergency Management Agency FEMA provided $4,112,755.86 to 703 people in Davison, Lincoln, Turner, and Union counties. This funding covers home repairs, moving expenses, and more.

In addition, the U.S. Small Business Administration has issued $795,500 in low-interest disaster loans.

The eastern part of South Dakota experienced heavy rainfall earlier this summer, described by the National Weather Service as a 1,000-year event. Canton, for instance, received over a foot of rain from June 20 to June 22.
