A mother from Sunny Isles Beach, Yulia Storozhuk, who was filmed mistreating her 3-year-old son last year, has confessed to her crime and is now a convicted felon.
On Thursday, 29-year-old Storozhuk appeared in court where she was visibly emotional while accepting a plea deal with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s office.
The footage from a neighbor’s Ring camera showed Storozhuk grabbing her son, lifting him up, and throwing him to the ground in October. Instead of jail time, she was sentenced to three years of probation.
As part of her plea deal, she must undergo a mental health evaluation and attend a parenting class. Despite the abuse being on video, the plan is for Storozhuk to eventually be reunited with her child.
The child is currently doing well and living with a foster family, while Storozhuk still has an ongoing case in dependency court. An attorney for the child argued that Storozhuk should face jail time, but Judge Carmen Cabarga decided based on the full case details and a psychologist’s recommendation for potential reunification.
