Sununu Supports Trump Despite Previous Concerns: A Shift in the GOP Landscape

New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu believes that former President Donald Trump is about to become more disciplined on the campaign trail.

Sununu, who had endorsed Nikki Haley in the GOP primary, previously stated that Trump couldn’t win in November if he were criminally convicted. However, after Trump’s primary victory and his conviction in New York for falsifying business records, Sununu has changed his stance and now supports Trump.

During an appearance on CNN’s The Source, Sununu was asked about Trump’s recent comments on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Trump has criticized Kemp since he acknowledged that Joe Biden’s 2020 election win in Georgia was legitimate. Despite Trump’s attacks, Kemp defeated a Trump-backed challenger in 2022 and continues to support Trump. On Thursday, Trump even thanked Kemp for his help in Georgia.

Host Kaitlan Collins asked Sununu if Trump’s softer approach toward Kemp is related to his tight race with Vice President Kamala Harris in other swing states.

Sununu explained that while no one can tell Trump what to do, Trump is very focused on poll numbers. He reads the polls and responds to them,” Sununu said, suggesting that slipping numbers might push Trump to adjust his approach to win in swing states. “You’re already seeing signs of it, Sununu added.

Earlier that day, Trump held a rally where he mocked Kamala Harris and called a Democratic Senate candidate a friggi’n loser.

The full interview aired on CNN.
