A comprehensive investigation has led to the indictment of nearly two dozen individuals connected to a major drug trafficking operation in Idaho’s Magic Valley.
U.S. Attorney Josh Hurwit announced federal charges against 10 residents, while an additional 10 people face state-level charges, marking the culmination of a joint state and federal investigation by the Organized Crime and Drug Enforcement Task Force.
The investigation, which began in 2023, uncovered a methamphetamine pipeline feeding the region, with authorities seizing over 30 pounds of the drug equivalent to tens of thousands of doses
. Many of the defendants are accused of traveling to California and Arizona to procure the methamphetamine, returning to Idaho for distribution.
Hurwit praised the collaboration between local law enforcement, Idaho State Police, and the DEA, crediting the teamwork for successfully dismantling the trafficking network.
Idaho Governor Brad Little also emphasized the success of the state’s efforts to enhance law enforcement training and operations through initiatives like Operation Esto Perpetua.
The defendants charged at the federal level range from 28 to 52 years old, with the majority hailing from Jerome, Idaho.
If convicted, they face severe penalties, including mandatory minimum sentences and a maximum of life imprisonment.
The state-level charges include possession and trafficking of methamphetamine.
This bust coincided with Idaho’s Top Gun Narcotics Investigation Course, underscoring the state’s commitment to combating drug trafficking.
Governor Little stressed Idaho’s resolve to remain inhospitable to drug traffickers, signaling a strong stance against future criminal activity.
