Two suspects were arrested for theft at a Kohl’s store in Campbell earlier this week, according to the Campbell Police Department CPD. The theft took place on August 27 at around 3:15 p.m. at the Kohl’s on E. Hamilton Avenue.
Police reported that a man and a woman were seen removing security sensors from clothing. The pair then fled the store in a stolen vehicle, which had been taken from San Jose.
The suspects were identified as 38-year-old KC Vernon Pries from Sunnyvale and 48-year-old Mary Jo Devera from San Jose. They abandoned the vehicle and attempted to escape into a nearby neighborhood. Devera was quickly arrested near the Kohl’s store.
CPD officers set up a perimeter to locate Pries. With the help of police drones, he was found hiding on a residential rooftop and was safely taken into custody.
Both suspects have extensive criminal records. Pries has been arrested over 25 times since 2004, while Devera has been arrested eight times since 2001.
CPD also shared a video showing the suspects inside the store before they ran to the getaway vehicle. Pries was seen trying on clothes in the store.
Pries and Devera were booked on multiple charges, including resisting arrest, conspiracy to commit a crime, retail theft, vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, stolen personal information, and drug paraphernalia. Pries was also found to be in violation of his parole.
