Virginia Parents Charged with Murder Following Tragic Death of 2-Year-Old Son

In Spotsylvania County, Virginia, two parents have been charged with murder after their two-year-old son, Cinceir Croxton Jr. CJ, died with a significant amount of cocaine in his system.

The tragic incident occurred in December 2023, when CJ passed away in Richmond. On August 19, 2024, a grand jury decided to charge his parents, 24-year-old Cinceir Croxton Sr. and 22-year-old Kayleighya Coleman, with murder.

CJ’s aunt, Ja-Hnae Thompson, expressed her shock, saying, I took care of CJ like he was my own. The 19-year-old was unaware that CJ had been exposed to drugs. Thompson mentioned that she hasn’t spoken to her sister, Coleman, in about two months. Currently, Coleman is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail.

Although the parents were initially charged with child neglect, endangerment, and cruelty, these charges have now been upgraded to murder. Legal analyst Russ Stone suggests that new evidence likely led to the more serious charges.

CJ was taken to VCU’s pediatric hospital in Richmond after being flown from the Spotsylvania motel where he and his parents were staying. Sadly, he died there.

Thompson said CJ’s parents visited the hospital that night but left, fearing they were in trouble. They were arrested a few hours later.

Thompson now seeks justice for CJ, stating, Our bond could never be broken, no matter the circumstances. Neither parent could attend CJ’s funeral, as they remain in jail. Their next court appearance is scheduled for September 3.
