The race for Virginia’s Attorney General in 2025 is shaping up with former Democratic state Del. Jay Jones officially entering the race.
Jones, who previously ran for the position in 2021, is aiming to unseat incumbent Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares.
In his announcement, Jones emphasized his commitment to the safety and freedom of Virginia families, framing his campaign as a response to what he described as Miyares’ alignment with former President Trump’s policies.
Jones’ entry adds to the growing list of Democratic candidates for the position, with Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney Shannon Taylor having announced her candidacy earlier.
Miyares, who has yet to confirm his reelection plans, took aim at the Democratic candidates, criticizing them as far-left and accusing them of supporting policies that he claims undermine public safety.
The upcoming 2025 elections will see Virginia’s voters deciding on several important races, including the Attorney General position.
Both parties are positioning themselves for what will likely be a heated contest, with the primaries set for June 17, 2025, and the general election slated for November 4, 2025.
