Two responses have been submitted in the ongoing case between the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission WVSSAC and the state supreme court regarding high school football playoff injunctions.
The responses, filed on behalf of teams from Mason and Wood counties, were submitted by Monday morning ahead of the 1 p.m. deadline. The West Virginia Supreme Court had previously stated it would review the case after the deadline.
The filings are a response to a writ of prohibition submitted by the WVSSAC last week. This brings the state closer to resolving a matter that has delayed the start of the high school football playoffs. However, there is no set timeline for a ruling.
The WVSSAC’s writ follows several injunctions issued by circuit courts around the state. These injunctions came after a Wood County ruling that required the WVSSAC to use a rating formula based on pre-season classifications.
This decision followed complaints from teams who lost ratings points after being unable to change their schedules at the last minute and having to play teams in different classifications.
